About PingTester

PingTester is a free, browser-based network diagnostics project focused on one thing: making latency and connectivity testing understandable and accessible to everyone — from home users troubleshooting a slow Wi-Fi connection to engineers validating infrastructure before deployment.

Our Mission

Network performance has become foundational to how we work, learn, and communicate. Yet the tools to measure it have historically lived in terminal windows, behind vendor paywalls, or buried in operating systems most people never open. Our mission is to bring transparent, privacy-first network diagnostics directly into the browser — no install, no account, no data leaving your device.

We believe a good diagnostic tool does three things: it measures accurately, it explains what the measurement means, and it points you toward action. Every page on this site is built around that loop.

Methodology

Our articles and reference material follow a consistent methodology:

• Primary measurement concepts first. We define latency, packet loss, and jitter in terms of the underlying protocols (ICMP, TCP, UDP) rather than marketing language.
• Realistic numbers. Latency thresholds we cite (e.g. under 20ms for real-time services, above 150ms for noticeable degradation) are grounded in widely documented operational experience, not hypothetical scenarios.
• Reproducible tests. Examples use standard command-line tools available on Windows, macOS, and Linux so readers can run the same checks themselves.
• Honest limitations. We label our demo widget as a demo because in-browser ping has real constraints (no raw ICMP, CORS, browser sandboxing). We will not imply capabilities the platform does not have.

Editorial Standards

Content is written by contributors with hands-on network engineering experience and reviewed for technical accuracy. We avoid keyword stuffing, fake urgency, and unsupported claims. Where a figure or benchmark is referenced, we link the source in a References section at the foot of the article so readers can verify it independently.
